Gifted adults are exceptionally intellectual, creative, rapid learners with a wider than usual range of interests and abilities. We have a long attention span if something interests us, love deep discussion and sharing ideas, and have a high level of self discipline and independence. We are highly reluctant to apply or accept the label of “gifted,” due to society’s stigma of inclusion in this category as arrogance. It may be masked by anxiety, depression, people pleasing, and shyness.
We also have empathy and tend to feel emotions intensely, just as HSPs do, but gifted adults have a strong preference for complexity and get bored easily if work or conversations are not challenging. Gifted adults are exceptional at synthesizing information, original ideas, metaphors, and are very concerned with morals, justice, and the greater good. If you identify with many of the descriptors above, you could be a gifted adult and may feel overwhelmed or stuck with the challenges that come with this brain wiring.
I work with Gifted Adults to help them improve their self esteem, reduce perfectionism and burnout, and set more realistic expectations for themselves. I will help you find other people who are similar to you to help reduce loneliness and, if you experience it, to heal from PTSD. I can teach you strategies for dealing with difficult situations, existential depression, buffet method for career, deflection skills, and help you eliminate phobias. Together, we will find solutions to improve your relationships, and I will offer you training in setting boundaries.
If you think you may be a gifted adult, you may benefit from my experience working with other gifted adults. Your sessions will be a safe time where you can fully be yourself. I work carefully to help you feel understood, accepted, and valued. In the first session, we will set goals and I will empower you to reach those goals at a pace that works for you.
